Mobile Optimization – It affects your Google ranking
There is growing buzz around Google’s latest announcement that starting April 21st mobile-friendliness will be a ranking signal in mobile searches. If your website isn’t mobile-friendly, look out; you may start dropping in the search rankings as soon as late April. So how do you determine if your website is mobile-friendly? According to Google it must meet the following criteria:
- Avoids software that is not common on mobile devices, like Flash
- Uses text that is readable without zooming
- Sizes content to the screen so users don’t have to scroll horizontally or zoom
- Places links far enough apart so that the correct one can be easily tapped
As this change is rolled out globally, a page that meets this criteria is eligible for a “mobile-friendly” label and a higher search ranking when searched for on mobile devices. Google’s goal is to help users find it easier to get relevant, high quality search results that are optimized for the devices they are using (e.g. phones and tablets).
